Silk Cayes
Silk Cayes Belize at a Glance
Experience one of the best snorkeling tours in Belize at the beautiful Silk Cayes Marine Reserve. Located just inside the Belize Barrier Reef, the Silk Cayes are a collection of tiny coral islands surrounded by crystal-clear turquoise water, vibrant coral gardens, and an incredible variety of marine life.
This is our most popular snorkeling excursion from Placencia and is perfect for families, couples, first-time snorkelers, and experienced ocean lovers alike. The calm, shallow reefs and spectacular marine life make Silk Cayes one of Belize’s premier snorkeling destinations.
The Silk Cayes, also known as the Queen Cayes, range in size from less than one acre to about four acres. Protected as part of the Gladden Spit and Silk Cayes Marine Reserve, these idyllic islands are home to healthy coral reefs, abundant reef fish, sea turtles, rays, and many other fascinating marine creatures.
Never snorkeled before? No problem. Our experienced, licensed guides will teach you everything you need to know before entering the water and stay with you throughout each snorkel. They are especially good with children, making this an excellent family adventure. Special rates are available for children 10 years and under.
If you’d rather spend the day relaxing on the island instead of snorkeling, ask about our Beachcomber Rate.
Your Day at silk cayes
Our boat departs Splash Dive Center in Placencia at 9:00 a.m. for the scenic 40 to 60-minute journey to the Silk Cayes.
After arriving, you’ll receive a welcome and conservation briefing from the park rangers before your licensed guide leads your first guided snorkel over flourishing coral gardens. Along the way, you’ll discover colourful reef fish, spotted drums, angelfish, parrotfish, barracuda, snapper, cleaner shrimp, arrow crabs, lobsters, and many other fascinating reef inhabitants.
Around midday, enjoy an authentic Belizean picnic lunch while relaxing beneath the coconut palms and taking in the spectacular Caribbean scenery. Divers exploring the nearby barrier reef often return to the caye for lunch, making Silk Cayes an excellent choice for families and groups with both divers and snorkelers.
At Splash Dive Center, we are committed to protecting the Belize Barrier Reef for future generations. Every guest is asked to follow our Splash Diver Snorkeler Code of Conduct https://splashbelize.com/diver-snorkeler-code-of-conduct/.
Our simple philosophy is “Look, but don’t touch.” Please enjoy observing marine life without touching, chasing, feeding, or handling animals, and avoid standing on or making contact with coral. These simple actions help reduce stress on marine life, protect fragile coral reefs, and ensure future visitors can enjoy the same remarkable underwater world.
