TROLLING, SPIN CAST AND BOTTOM FISHING IN BELIZE

Belize has it all! This is the fishery with the longest barrier reef in the northern and western hemispheres, hundreds of cayes, mangroves, sandy flats, rivers, and streams. Spend a half day, a full day or several days checking out the coastal and lagoon spin casting and trolling.

The picturesque village of Placencia started life as a fishing village by has grown into a quaint tourist destination village with a myriad of attractions from world-class diving and snorkeling to inland adventure and cultural tours with something for everyone.

Our guides are all local, having started life in Placencia learning the secrets of the seas, lagoons, and rivers from their fisherman fathers.  They have years of experience fishing in the waters of Belize and are licensed tour guides.  Licensed tour guides have completed training and have passed oral and written exams covering a range of topics including CPR and first-aid, ecology of the reef, waters and rainforest, and marine life among others.  This program is intended to protect the environment and ecology of Belize and to ensure the quality of service to visitors as well as residents of Belize.

Our standard boat is a 23-foot skiff with a canopy.

Don’t know how to fish or haven’t been fishing for a long time?  No problem, our guides can give you a quick course in spin casting, jigging, or trolling and have you fishing in less than an hour.  Don’t have the equipment or forgot to bring it?  No problem, our guides have equipment perfectly suited to our conditions, and water’s included in the price.

Bottom fishing is usually the busiest type of fishing and is a great way to introduce children and grandchildren to saltwater fishing and have a lot of fun.  First, your guide will catch your bait with a cast net and then head to one of your guide’s favorite spots for both bottom fishing and setting a couple of lines with live bait.  Catch snapper and grouper by bottom fishing and catch jack, mackerel, barracuda, shark, and whatever is swimming by with live bait or troll inside the reef.

Tired of bottom fishing – take some time to do some trolling.  What a way to explore the coastline of Belize and find out where the fish are!

Full-day tours include lunch, water, and sodas.  Half-day tours include water and sodas and snacks.

Full-day tours depart at 8:00 am returning at 5:00 pm.  Half-day tours depart at 8:00 am returning at 12:00

After your day of fishing, your crew will clean your catch for you.   If you do not have access to cooking facilities, most restaurants and resorts will be happy to cook up your catch.

Wear shoes that you don’t mind getting wet, a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, and a hat.  Bring a camera, sunscreen, and a sense of adventure.
