Community & Environmental Projects
Our Commitment to environmental protection
We are committed to long-term sustainable tourism and diving practices. Our focus is protecting the Belize Barrier Reef, the Whale Sharks of Gladden Spit, and all aquatic life. We are privileged to share these wonders with our scuba divers and snorkelers. Our team actively works to cull the invasive lionfish. This species causes serious damage to our aquatic environment and marine life. We follow and enforce PADI standards for marine life protection. We ask divers and snorkelers to follow our code of conduct. Together, we can protect and preserve the barrier reef.
Our Community & Environmental Projects
Splash Junior Club
Splash Running Club
Our Running Club supports runners from elementary school to international competition. Some of these kids have the talent to win athletic scholarships. Our Splash coaches give them the training to reach that level. Patty started the not-for-profit organization Arrecife Handmade to help fund the club. Every purchase supports sustainable practices. It also empowers young athletes in the Placencia Peninsula. You can find these products in our dive center or at local gift shops in Placencia.
Adopt a New Tour Guide
The Splash Adopt a New Tour Guide Program nurtures talent within our team. We offer comprehensive training and support to every participant. This empowers tour guides to reach their full potential. They grow in confidence and skill across all aspects of their role. Through this program, we enhance the quality of our guided tours. We also invest in the personal and professional growth of our guides. The result is a skilled, enthusiastic team that delivers unforgettable experiences to every client.
Help Our Heroes
The Splash Help Our Heroes Program partners with the BESOLT Rescue Team. Together, we develop skilled divers and marine rescuers. Participants receive rigorous training and mentorship throughout the program. They work toward achieving the prestigious Dive Master level. They also acquire crucial skills used in marine rescue. This collaboration equips our heroes to respond to aquatic emergencies with confidence.
Be My Mentor
This program partners with local schools to provide students with internship opportunities. Young individuals gain practical experience at Splash Dive Center. They receive mentorship from our team of professionals. This gives them real insight into the world of tourism and conservation. The program supports local education. It also nurtures the next generation of leaders in our community.
Bookbag Santa
Bookbag Santa is a community partnership. We offer affordable diving experiences through this program. The organization gives back by providing much-needed school supplies and medical resources to local schools.
Our Environmental Projects & Conservation Work
Placencia Peninsula Beach Clean Up
During the pandemic, we took a proactive approach to support our team and protect the environment. We launched a weekly beach clean-up initiative along the Placencia Peninsula. Every week, our team worked for three hours alongside ten enthusiastic volunteers. Together, they removed litter and debris from these beautiful shores. This effort supported our employees during a difficult period. It also allowed us to contribute to the upkeep of the local environment. The initiative demonstrated the strength of community and the power of collective action.
Laughing Bird Caye Annual Cleanup
The north area of Laughing Bird Caye is a protected bird rookery. It is off limits to the public for most of the year. Once a year, park rangers open the area for our Splash-organized cleanup. We remove flotsam and jetsam that has accumulated over the past year. We celebrated our 20th Annual Clean Up on March 16, 2024. Two hundred dedicated volunteers joined us for the event. Most of the school kids from the Placencia, Seine, Bight, and Independence area also participated. Over twenty local companies contributed boats, fuel, lunches, and materials to support the program.
