Pompion Caye is a private island snorkeling destination located just inside the Belize Barrier Reef, home to an abundance of aquatic life, fish stocks, coral reef biodiversity, and healthy corals. Located about 20 miles east of Placencia and south of Silk Cayes, it remains one of Belize’s most unspoiled reef environments.

Pompion Caye Trip Plan

Arrive at Splash Dive Center by 08:30 to get fitted out with snorkel gear. Departure is at 09:00 am. The boat ride to the caye takes between 40 and 60 minutes. Snorkel vests are available for all guests.

After a briefing, your licensed snorkel guide will lead a reef tour. You will also be introduced to the local marine residents. After a genuine Belize style lunch, continue your underwater exploration. If you have not snorkeled before, no problem. Our guides are happy to show you the basics. They will also introduce you to the coral and its inhabitants.

The reef is home to a wide variety of critters. These include spotted drum, huge lobsters, cleaner shrimp, arrow crabs, snapper, and barracuda. Additionally, you will find more varieties of reef fish than you can count.

What You’ll Experience

The waters surrounding the caye are crystal clear. Furthermore, visibility often exceeds 60 feet. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced snorkeler, the reef is accessible and awe-inspiring.

The coral formations here are part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef. This is the second largest barrier reef in the world. Because of ongoing conservation efforts, these reefs remain remarkably healthy. As a result, this is one of the best snorkeling spots in southern Belize. Snorkel vests, equipment, and a licensed guide are all included.

The best time to visit is between November and June. During this period, seas are calm and visibility peaks. Moreover, groups are kept small to preserve the reef and ensure a personal experience for every guest.
