Community & Environmental Projects
Splash Dive Center is dedicated to delivering exceptional scuba diving and snorkeling experiences in Belize while promoting environmental conservation and sustainable tourism. Owned and operated by Patty Ramirez and Ralph Capeling, our team is committed to providing the highest standards of customer service while actively supporting marine conservation and community initiatives in Southern Belize.
Our Commitment to environmental protection
We’re committed to long-term sustainable tourism and diving practices. Our focus is on protecting the Belize Barrier reef, the Whale sharks of Gladden Spit, and all the aquatic life that we are so privileged to be able to show our scuba divers and snorkelers. Our team is particularly committed to the culling of the invasive lionfish, an invasive species causing great damage to our aquatic environment and marine life. We follow and enforce PADI standards with respect to marine life. We ask divers and snorkelers to do their part to protect and preserve the barrier reef by following our code of conduct.
Our Community projects
Splash Junior Club
Splash Running Club
Our Running Club supports runners from elementary school level up to and including international competition. Some of these kids have the talent to win athletic scholarships, given the training that the Splash coaches provide. To help fund the Running Club, Patty started the not-for-profit organization Arrecife Handmade. Every purchase supports sustainable practices and empowers young athletes in the Placencia Peninsula. You can find these products in our dive center or at gift shops in Placencia.

Placencia Peninsula Beach Clean Up
During the challenging times of the pandemic, our commitment to our employees’ well-being and our dedication to environmental preservation led us to take a proactive approach. To support our staff and their livelihoods, we initiated a weekly initiative where we organized clean-up efforts along the beautiful Placencia Peninsula beaches. For three hours every week, our dedicated team, along with the help of ten enthusiastic volunteers, came together to remove litter and debris from these picturesque shores. This not only provided our employees with a means to survive during the pandemic but also allowed us to contribute to the upkeep of the local environment. It was a true testament to the strength of community and the importance of collective action during challenging times.
Laughing Bird Caye Annual Cleanup
The north area of Laughing Bird Caye is off limits to the public as it is a bird rookery but for one day each year the park rangers open the area for the Splash organized annual cleanup of the flotsam and jetsam that has accumulated over the past year. Splash celebrated the 20th Annual Clean Up on March 16, 2024. This initiative gathers two hundred dedicated volunteers who want to make a difference along with most of the school kids in the Placencia, Seine, Bight and Independence area. Over twenty local companies contribute boats, fuel, lunches and material to support the program. Read more about it here.
