Visitor’s From Colorado Donate to Placencia’s Mooring Buoy Project.
In February Marion Carr project coordinator for PMM – Placencia Mooring Masters, received an email from Dave Sturtz offering a donation to the project. Having read about the project on Splash Dive Shop’s website, being an avid diver and sailor he wanted to assist the project, as he is aware that mooring buoy’s really do make a difference in protecting the reef from anchor damage.
A list was sent to Dave of what was still needed, with note that anything on the list would be greatly appreciated. Dave along with his family and friends duly arrived in Placencia for their visit on March 4th, bringing with them ten 7/8” stainless steel thimbles, a selection of paint marker pens and two rolls of 10ft specialized waterproof reflective tape used on buoys. The donation is worth over US$200, which PMM is extremely grateful to have received. Thank you, Dave & Anita Sturtz, Matt Sturtz, Forest King, Penny Hoge & George Fairer for your donation.
Now, as soon as the other materials ordered from USA reach Placencia, we will be able to start the splicing classes & move onto start the installations. If you have missed past news regarding this voluntary local project, which is funded through Coral Reef Alliance, WWF and other donations.
